A new local OCT study opportunity
Moorfields Eye Hospital in London is at the heart of a new study that is looking at Neovascular Age-Related Macula Degeneration (nAMD) and how it can be managed in the Optometry Community. The FENETRE Study is attempting to show that stable AMD patients can be monitored successfully by Optomety practices with OCT facilities and the first wave is already under way. A second wave of 10 sites will be set up for the main study including Bart’s, Princess Alexandra, West Sussex and Wakefield! The study will involve patients with nAMD who have reached the inactive phase of the disease.

Local Optometrists are therefore invited to join this scheme provided their practice has an OCT (any type) and operates in the Wakefield CCG area. Full web based training will be provided by City University under Prof John Lawrenson and will result in a certificate recognised by the College Of Optometrists that will count towards a higher qualification in medical retina. The number of patients will be small (perhaps 1-3 patients per week) and will be fully funded so practices will be paid for each patient seen. The study is looking for perhaps 3-4 practices within the area.

The FENETRE Study is an exciting opportunity for individuals and practices to gain first class training and experience on the topic and we are lucky to be included in what will be a venture of national importance. If you and your practice would like to consider taking part and would like to learn more details about the study then in the first instance reply to info@wakefieldoptometry.org.uk
